Vancouver Heritage Site Finder
Vancouver Heritage Foundation is dedicated to advancing the conservation and appreciation of Vancouver's historical landmarks, and their stories. Their objective in creating a new web application was to raise awareness of the vital role of heritage in creating vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities. VHF’s supporters include a large number of seniors, so our primary challenge was to create a site that was simple and user friendly, while being information-rich, modern and interactive.

Our Approach
Our objective was to create a friendly and easy-to-use interface that enabled users to effortlessly navigate through the map.
We developed a state-of-the-art interactive map application using Statamic, which allowed users to easily locate and learn about Vancouver's many and varied heritage sites. Our objective was to create a friendly and easy-to-use interface that enabled users to effortlessly navigate through the map.
Every icon marking a historic site opens with a simple introduction about the site or area of interest, with a call-to-action button that invites the user to explore further. This leads to more information, photos and rich multi-media content. Users can also submit their own stories related to the historical site. A detailed tutorial is included to ensure ease of use and to maximize adoption and site usage.

The Outcome
It’s now easier than ever to learn about the city’s heritage through its 2,200+ historical sites.
A rich database of interesting, engaging and informative content is now easily accessible to residents, professional and amateur historians, and anyone curious about Vancouver’s heritage.
We deliberately designed the site with a highly-intuitive interface, using best development practices that invite engagement and increase usage. While most of these landmarks are snapshots of time and place, the website itself is flexible and can easily grow, with the capacity to incorporate additional content and features in the future. This will help ensure the site stays relevant to the people it appeals to. The project contributes to preserving Vancouver’s heritage by raising awareness of the importance of preserving historical buildings and sites.
We loved working on this project, as it exemplified SplitMango’s commitment to creating meaningful web experiences that benefit people of all interests, and which provide a place for our community to come together, learn and share memories.
