SplitMango & Community Involvement
What’s better than throwing a BBQ on a beautiful summer evening? Not much! So when we were approached by one of our staff to sponsor an inner city youth theatre camp by throwing a Parents & Campers BBQ, we immediately jumped on board.
Green Room Theatre Camp
Green Room Theatre Camp is a six-week evening camp that teaches Surrey high school students the entire life cycle of a theatrical production. The program is unique for a number of reasons:
- The culmination of the program will be an original show that the campers get to take to Havana Theatre for the Vancouver Fringe Festival.
- 50% of the ticket sales will be donated to a local charity of the campers’ choosing.
- Registration only costs $100, so as to keep it affordable for the campers’ families. Comparable camps can cost anywhere from $400 to $2,500 for a single week.
The camp leaders and guest lecturers are all volunteer and to keep up with the camp costs have started an IndieGoGo campaign that ends on August 6.
Summer BBQ
You’ll be happy to know that the BBQ was a huge success. Making a difference in our community is extremely important and we’re more than pleased to have had the opportunity to help out such a interesting and fruitful project.
