Now it’s time for a little chat with one of the designers at SplitMango.
SplitMango: Hi Esperanza! Let’s start with the most difficult question, what’s your name?
Esperanza: My full name is Esperanza Garcia Gomez. I’m Mexican so I have two last names. Esperanza is a Spanish word that means Hope.
SplitMango: What’s your background in design?
Esperanza: It started when I was a kid and couldn’t stop drawing, painting and making crafts. Which led me to take art classes in high school and then a Bachelor Degree in graphic design. After a very short time in the editorial industry I started working for digital agencies as a web designer where I found my passion.
SplitMango: What drew you to design?
Esperanza: It came as something natural to me. I was lucky to find early in my life what I wanted to do: make things look great and be functional. Create visual materials to communicate ideas.
SplitMango: Fantastic! How long have you been working at SplitMango?
Esperanza: Almost 2 months. Time flies!
SplitMango: What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not designing?
Esperanza: Well I have a few. First having fun with my 5 years old son, he’s a very cool kid. After all day sitting on a desk I like to stay active, run, hike and be outdoors. Also, I’ve been practicing Capoeira for 4 years with the Abada Capoeira group. It’s a Martial Art from Brazil that includes movements, music, singing and lots of good energy. You should try it too!
SplitMango: Very cool, I could use a good workout! Hey, if there was one thing you could change about the Internet what would it be?
Esperanza: Ban bullies. The Internet should be a place to communicate in a respectful way, to find information, create links between ideas, concepts and people. When hate gets in the way it’s all messed up.
SplitMango: We completely agree. Thanks so much for chatting with us Esperanza.
Esperanza: It was my pleasure.
